Assistant Director of Community Engagement, Sewanee: The University of the South

The  Assistant Director of Community Engagement will become a member of a fast growing community engagement program in a rural setting, partnered with Yale Medical School and the South Cumberland Community Fund, a local community develop program, in various pioneering initiatives.

Two-thirds of the Assistant Director’s time will be assigned to working in the Office of Community Engagement, responsible for directing all aspects of the South Cumberland Plateau VISTAs project and functioning as the manager of university-community collaborations, including providing support for faculty, students, and community partners participating in academic community engagement courses or research projects, and advising Sewanee’s Bonner and Canale service internship programs.

One-third of the Assistant Director’s time will be assigned to providing leadership to the capacity building programs of the South Cumberland Community Fund.  The Assistant Director will work with the Capacity Building Committee, whose mission is to develop opportunities (organizational self-assessments, training, convening, collaboration, etc.) that will build the capacity of individual nonprofit organizations, networks of organizations, and the community as a whole.

The ideal candidate will have directed, or helped manage, a VISTA program or other related community engagement program at a college or university. A Bachelor’s degree is required, and a Master’s degree, or work toward it, preferred.
