Coordinator for Engagement, Old Dominion University

Duties include: serve as the primary contact for community service and civic engagement opportunities for ODU students, serve as advisor to a Greek Life Council, and coordinate fraternity and sorority activities. Specifically, the Coordinator for Engagement assumes the following duties:

25% Coordinate Service Events on Campus
Develop and coordinate the community service programs for ODU students. This includes all tasks needed to implement these events such as program logistics, leading a committee, marketing, volunteer coordination, on-site management, budgeting and more.

These programs will include, but not limited to:
-Community Service/Volunteer Fair per semester.
-Relay for Life
-Freshman Service Experience
-Haul for Hunger
-MLK service initiative

25% Coordinate Fraternity and Sorority Activities
Plan and implement Fall Formal Recruitment for Pan-Hellenic Council. This includes develop marketing strategies and the creation and dissemination of public-relations and marketing materials. Also involves the training of student recruitment counselors, on-site coordinator, and using IBS software.

Coordinate service activity as part of Greek Week.

Assist with Fraternity and Sorority Standards Evaluation Process.

15% Student Development through Service
Advise student organizations’ service activities, projects, and programs, including Greek Philanthropy events. This includes assisting with programmatic logistics and tracking of hours and projects accomplished.

Advise and host a Community Service Council for any student group who is interested in, or currently is involved in, community service. This Council will assist with communication between groups with similar purposes and strategic planning of service events.

Develop recognition programs and awards for service activities, projects, and programs.

15% Advising
Advise one Fraternity / Sorority Council (either PHC, IFC or NPHC).

Advising includes attending all meetings, goal setting, implementation of events, and conflict management.

Serve as the advisor to College’s Against Cancer organization. Advising includes attending all meetings, goal setting, implementation of events, and conflict management. This organization oversees Relay for Life annual event.

15% Assessment
Develops and reviews assessment plans /reports of all service-based activities on campus. Assist with assessment of Fraternity Sorority Life community activities.

Assists with the implementation and maintenance of the software program OrgSync to track service activities, volunteer hours, and project-based results for reporting.

Collaborates on initial and ongoing development of assessment and evaluation activities by drafting survey items.

Monitors data collection integrity, downloads data and converts data for statistical analysis, archives assessment data /analyzes results; and publishes reports as directed. Responds to ad hoc data inquiries.

5% Other duties as assigned related to the advancement of other Office of Leadership and Student Involvement projects/activities/events. Serve as a contributing member of the Office of Leadership and Student Involvement, including attend weekly staff meetings. Serve on university committees and attend university events.

Any other duties as assigned to meet the mission of the office of engaging every student in co-curricular activities that lead to student success.

Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic experience in a university setting, supporting student development through student organization management, or leadership development programming. Basic experience developing, planning, and implementing programs and services to support student organizations, their leaders and membership. Basic experience programming for and/or managing diverse groups of college students, student volunteers, and/or student employees. Some experience in student activities, and volunteer programs or Fraternity and Sorority Life (including graduate assistantships).

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of student development theory and its practices. Basic knowledgeable of the best practices and procedures associated with planning, developing and implementing community service and civic engagement program activities, procedures and policies. Strong knowledge of personal computers and information systems, including demonstrated ability to operate software in a Windows environment. Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to research, analyze and resolve simple and complex programmatic issues. Demonstrated ability to organize and to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and perform work assignments. Demonstrated ability to produce reports, manipulate data and prepare correspondence using Microsoft Office products. Demonstrated ability to advise students in a college environment.
