Associate Director of Community-based Learning, Central College

The Associate Director of Community-based Learning will have primary responsibility for the development, coordination and oversight of academic internships in addition to assisting the director with coordination of service-learning placements and services.  As such, the Associate Director serves as primary contact for students, faculty, staff and employers regarding academic internship opportunities; conducts research and contacts local companies and organizations to build networking and internship programs; and establishes strong relationships between the college and these entities through site visits and correspondence. The Associate Director coordinates placement of service learning students at appropriate community agencies, tracks volunteer needs of community partners, and collaborates with the director on orientation and reflection sessions.  The Associate Director provides coordination for students enrolled in the Iowa Campus Compact AmeriCorps Program, assists the director with supervision of Advocates for Community Engagement (ACEs), and assists the director with planning and coordination of community-partner dialogues and professional development for faculty related to service-learning.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in human service, public relations, community relations, or higher education with a minimum of two years of experience in a higher education setting.  Also required:

  • Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills and ability to work effectively with students, faculty and staff, corporate and community partners
  • Database experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Commitment to the value and mission of a liberal arts education.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to local sites.

Candidates with the following experience are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Experience developing, promoting, and managing internship/experiential learning opportunities for students in a higher education environment.
  • Experience working with community partners, students, and faculty.
