Bonner Scholars Program Coordinator, Guilford College

Under the general supervision of the Director of the Bonner Center, the Coodinator provides enthusiastic leadership and support to students in the services, activities and projects of the Bonner Scholars Program. Promotes a campus-wide ethic of service in keeping with the ideals of the Bonner Foundation. Coordinates planning and implementation of all program meetings and activities.

1. Identifies, coordinates, and monitors all tutoring and other service placements of Bonner Scholars during the academic year and summer by networking with the Volunteer Center of Greensboro and other community service agencies; assists students in coordinating their transportation needs through Project Community and the Facilities Department.

2. Works with Bonner Scholars to plan and implement regularly scheduled enrichment activities such as workshops, training programs, speakers and group service projects which meet the service interests of both Bonners and other students, coordinating efforts with Project Community, Community Senate, Office of Campus Ministry, faculty, and Bonner Programs at other colleges.

3. Continually develops new resources and promotes new opportunities for Bonner Scholars’ community service; communicates all important program information (including upcoming events, meeting times, journal deadlines, etc.) to students via Gmail and other appropriate forms of communication.

4. Develops and coordinates the Bonner Advisory Board, a student advisory board that advises the direction of current programs, the development of new initiatives, and the spending of the Bonner Community Fund.

5. Plans and implements a service-intensive orientation to the program for incoming Bonners with the help of student leaders.

6. Assists in the recruitment and selection of a diverse group of new Scholars in conjunction with the Office of Admission and the Office of Financial Aid.

7. Monitors academic standing of Bonner Scholars. Serves as a referral source for all college support services and coordinates retention efforts.

8. Reads students’ monthly journals and provides oral and written feedback.

9. Maintains ongoing records, including placement directories, attendance at Bonner functions, service hour log sheets, travel reimbursements, and others.

10. Team-teaches the Introduction to Community Learning class for first-year Bonner Scholars and supports other initiatives that help students connect their service experiences with academics.

11. Assists the Director in preparing periodic reports to the Bonner Foundation and college officials.
