Halloween in Belk!

Need a break from studying?  Belk will have lots of scary movies on display Friday – Monday.

On Monday come be a part of our Halloween Contest where you will find staff in Belk Library dressed up in some awesome costumes!  Visit the library between 8am and 5pm, get your map and entry form, search out the staff in costume to get your form signed, and then enter your completed form into our drawing for a chance to win some amazing prizes!

Belk Library Summer Lunch Series

Belk Library would like to announce its Summer Lunch series: “Do you want to know a secret? What you don’t know about Belk Library”

Open to Elon employees…physical plant, staff, faculty, anyone that works at Elon!

Belk Library has more than just books and journals that Elon students use to do their work.  There are hidden gems that you can use.  These informal sessions won’t have homework…just useful tips.  And fun!

Please join us at lunchtime; bring your lunch, and we’ll provide the drinks and desserts!

Founders Day 2011

This week Elon will honor Dr. Thomas E. Powell, Jr. ’19 for Founders Day. Powell was a member of the Class of 1919 and served as a professor of biology and geology at Elon from 1919-1936. In 1927, he founded Carolina Biological Supply Company.

Business school celebrates 25 years

The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business is celebrating its 25th anniversary! Check out the library’s book and poster display to learn more about Martha and Spencer Love.

In late December of 1985, the Martha and Spencer Love Foundation made a $1 million gift to Elon College to endow its business program. The Elon board of trustees voted to name the program the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business in memory of the foundation’s benefactors. At the time, the gift was the largest in the 97-year history of the college.

Art Exhibit in Oak Grove Lounge

The new art exhibit by Peg Gignoux in the Oak Grove Lounge is part of the Alamance Reads “one community, one book” celebration.  This year’s book is The Pleasure Was Mine by Tommy Hays and includes a character who attends the Penland School of Crafts in the North Carolina mountains.  Peg is well-connected to Penland.

PAGES – MIXED MEDIA WORKS was created by Marguerite Jay Gignoux. Known for fabric and book arts, she leads collaborative workshops for all ages and is a former Penland student, mentor, and teacher – and also an Elon adjunct art professor who regularly teaches winter term courses in fabric arts, book making, and story illustration. The exhibit will be run through February 18.

ARTIST RELECTIONS – PENLAND CONNECTIONS – Artist’s talk and reception Saturday, Feb. 5, 2:00-5:00pm in Belk Library.  The artist’s talk starts at 2:30pm.

Belk Library has free coffee and cider for you and just when you need it, late night during exams!  Listen for the announcement around 10pm every night December 8 – 12.
