Service-learning collection

Published by

servicelearning1.JPGIn May 2009, the Archives and Special Collections received seven boxes of materials from Robert L. “Bob” Sigmon relating to service-learning.  The Bob Sigmon manuscript collection contains materials pertaining to the National Service for Experiential Education, the North Carolina Internship Office, the Council of Independent Colleges, the Society for Field Experience Education, the Southern Regional Education Board, and many other newsletters, pamphlets, research notes, and unpublished manuscripts about service-learning.  Sigmon is one of the key pioneers in the national service-learning movement, and has been involved with service activities and engaged learning for over 40 years.  The Robert L. Sigmon Service-Learning Award was established at Elon University in February of 2006, and it has been presented annually to a faculty or staff member in North Carolina who has made significant contributions toward furthering the practice of service-learning.   We are currently in the process of seeking assistance to organize and to create a finding aid for the collection.  Researchers are welcome to use the collection with the understanding that it is unprocessed.
